Donavan Fullard was recently appointed as the Programme Manager of the South African National Biodiversity Institute’s (SANBI’s) Jobs Fund / Groen Sebenza Project, which intends to build institutional capacity in the biodiversity sector so as to catalyse access to employment and job creation in ecosystem management.
South Africa is on the cusp of a major investment in infrastructure, but are we adequately investing in ecological infrastructure to support our national development priorities of service delivery, job creation and economic growth? This was the central issue debated at the recent Dialogue on Ecological Infrastructure hosted by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) Grasslands Programme at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).
On the 26th of October 2012, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, the Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs (DWEA) attended the Weedbuster Awareness campaign in Onseepkans in the Northern Cape to embark on the invasive plant control and waste problems faced by the inhabitants of the area. The campaign was led by DEA through the Environmental Programmes branch and was supported by various partners and stakeholders.
The Biodiversity Geographic Information System (BGIS) unit has added the following Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) base layers to the Municipal Biodiversity Summaries and Plan Index interactive maps: World Street, Map World Imagery and World Physical Map.This allows users to access more information about their areas, from aerial photos to road names.
