Twenty one individuals and institutions recently received awards for their outstanding contribution to the maintenance of biodiversity in the Eden District. The Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve (GCBR) Awards were handed over at a gala dinner at the Garden Route Game Lodge near Albertinia on the 30th of October for the GCBR to honour and appreciate the persons, organisations and individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the GCBR’s first year of existence.
The Climate Action Partnership (CAP) and Conservation South Africa (CSA) hosted a knowledge exchange workshop with the CitiGroup funded SKEPPIES Building Resilience to Climate Change Projects. The workshop was held at the Kokerboom Conference Centre in Springbok from the 9th to the 10th of June 2011.
World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event that aims to be the biggest and most widely-celebrated global day for environmental action, with activities taking place all year round and culminating on the 5th of June. The celebration involves over 112 countries and brings together people from all walks of life to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations. WED celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action. The 2011 theme for World Environment Day was “Forests: Nature at Your Service”.
